HDHA began as a small idea that came to me during Christmas of 2020, and from there gradually unfolded into a complete world of its own. The names Helios and Selene are borrowed from mythology, where they stand as the sibling sun and moon. Yet in this world, I wanted to reshape them into a pair of twins who exist almost as the reverse of one another, as if each were the hidden underside of the other.
Through them, I want to explore a series of questions that continue to haunt me. Is fate something one can resist, or is it something that waits patiently beyond every struggle? How do innate disability and innate brilliance stand before each other, confront each other, wound each other? And between two people who mirror one another so closely, how do jealousy, envy, love, protection, dependence, and anger refract, intensify, and return?
